Pleural Mesothelioma
Pleural mesothelioma is a malignant form of cancer that affects thousands of adults in the United States every year. Asbestos is the carcinogen that causes mesothelioma (“Meso”). Many unsuspecting individuals are carrying millions of asbestos fibers in their lungs. If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, then you definitely need specialized asbestos attorneys like the litigators at The Meso Law Firm on your side when you want to go after the companies responsible for your cancer.
What is pleural mesothelioma?
Pleural mesothelioma is a cancer that typically forms on the outside of one of the lungs, within the thoracic cavity (chest area). Aggressive tumors form along the pleural lining, a saran wrap like film that lines the lung, and these tumors can spread out around the lungs, or to other parts of the body. The good news is that pleural mesothelioma is extremely rare, and only a few thousand people in the United States are diagnosed with it every year. The bad news is that, to this day, this particular meso diagnosis is widely considered by the medical community to be incurable and terminal. The two most common cell types for pleural mesothelioma are epithelioid and sarcomatoid. Biphasic is a combination of the two.
Who can develop this form of cancer?
Due to the fact that tens of millions of people were exposed to asbestos throughout the 20th century, many people are at risk of developing pleural mesothelioma. Asbestos is a natural mineral that may cause serious health problems not limited to mesothelioma. For example, it can also cause lung cancer. The danger of asbestos is very real in the sense that merely breathing in asbestos exposes the individual to some risk of developing cancer. The experts agree that there is No Safe Level of Exposure to asbestos.
Unfortunately, many people with pleural mesothelioma and other forms of cancer caused by asbestos are not diagnosed with these illnesses until it is too late. For some, the meso diagnosis comes at a point when treatment is no longer an option. If you have been occupationally exposed to asbestos, and find that you are short of breath, or having other problematic symptoms in your thoracic area, such as pain in your upper back, we urge you to (i) go see your doctor, (ii) tell him or her about your asbestos exposure, and (iii) ask for a chest x ray.
